In 1953, Edelrid introduced the kernmantel rope to the climbing world. This a unique invention featured a load-bearing core protected by an exterior sheath that would go on to transform the area of fall prevention by reducing rope breakage. This was followed up in 1964 with the development of the first multi-fall dynamic rope that would go on to pioneer most of the standard climbing ropes we use today.
The company continues to advance new rope technology into the modern age, all out of its factory in Isny, Germany. It is the second-oldest existing mountain sport company in the world, having been in existence since 1863.
